Western medicine often tells you that the only thing you can do to recover from an injury or illness is take pills or get a medical procedure. While such remedies certainly have their place, there’s a lot more that you can do that’s within your own power.

The problem is, we’re usually never taught how to take control of our own health and healing. That’s where practices like Buddha Palm come in.

Buddha Palm is an ancient practice that empowers the individual by teaching you how to become your own personal healer. By learning how to harness the abundance of energy that constantly surrounds you, you’re able to channel the gifts of the universe to heal your body.

In this blog, you’ll discover the foundational healing principles of Buddha Palm Qi Gong. You’ll also get to try an eight-minute guided practice so you can experience its healing benefits for yourself.

The Principles of Buddha Palm Qi Gong

Buddha Palm is based on the understanding that the world around you holds an abundance of energy (Qi). The Earth, universe, and nature all embody their own qualities of Qi, which also exist within you.

By using specific techniques, Buddha Palm practices teach you how to align your body with the forces around you. In doing so, you’re able to ‘tune in” to gifts of the universe and harness their nourishing qualities for health and healing.

You can think of this process in the same way as an old-fashioned TV antenna. Just like you could improve your TV’s reception by adjusting the antenna, you can do the same thing with your body when it comes to tapping into the universe’s energy.

Once you know how to channel energy from your environment, you can then direct it into your hands. In Buddha Palm practices, your hands are very important because they can direct and guide energy throughout your body. While the following Buddha Palm routine focuses on self-healing, you can also learn Buddha Palm practices that are aimed at healing others.

Although the routine below is just eight-minutes long, it enables you to truly experience the transformative effects that the practice offers. We’ve provided this routine both in written and video form.

Eight-Minute Buddha Palm Routine for Self-Healing

To begin this routine, stand upright with your feet about shoulder-width apart. If standing is difficult for you, try sitting in a chair with your back straight and your feet planted firmly on the floor in front of you.

When you’re ready, bring your hands together and start to rub the knuckles of each hand against your knuckles on the other hand. Move your hands quickly as you rub your knuckles back and forth. This is a great exercise for activating the energy in your hands.

Next, let your hands rest by your sides and then shake them vigorously so your hands move quickly from front to back. You should feel invigorating in your hands, wrists, and forearms. This is a wonderful exercise for opening the energy pathways (i.e., meridians) in your hands and arms so Qi can flow throughout your body.

After a minute or two, bring your hands down to your sides and take a couple of deep breaths. Notice energy moving down your arms and into your hands.

Now, bring your hands in front of you and face your palms toward the ground. Feel the energy of the Earth below you. Continue breathing deeply and visualize the Earth’s energy flowing into your hands and filling you up with rich, vital Qi.

The Earth has the wonderful quality of composting old energy and turning it into fresh and nourishing Qi. As you connect deeply to the Earth, feel its vitality flowing into your hands. The Earth holds an abundance of Yin energy.

After a minute or two, raise your hands above your head so your fingers are pointing toward the sky. Take some more deep breaths and imagine energy from the universe above you radiating downward into your hands, down your arms, and into your body. The universe is Yang.

Next, bring your hands in front of you so your palms are facing one another. Feel the Yin energy from the Earth, and Yang energy from the universe blend together between your hands and within your body. Pulse your hands gently back and forth as you feel the energy between them build and grow.

After a minute or two, move your hands upward and let your palms face your chest. Feel your hands radiating that rich, nourishing energy that you just gathered from around you.

Move the palms of your hands downward slowly as you channel energy into your lungs, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and the rest of your abdomen. As you move your hands, continue visualizing that your hands are channeling and radiating nourishing, healing energy throughout your body.

If there are any other areas of your body that could use some extra healing energy, move your hands to those parts. Perhaps send healing energy to your neck, shoulders, or head. Move your hands slowly and continue breathing deeply as you continue this gentle and soothing practice.

When you’re done, bring your hands back to your side, take a deep breath, and take that feeling of nourishment with you into the rest of your day.
