Lee’s Five Recommendations to Naturally Overcome Fatigue Using Qi Gong Principles
Do you ever feel tired and depleted during the day? If so, you know it doesn’t feel good to lack the energy you need to accomplish your goals or feel your best. Fortunately, Lee (a Qi Gong master with 27+ years of experience) has some simple yet powerful recommendations to help you overcome fatigue and maintain healthy energy levels in everyday life.
In the twenty-first century, it can be easy to turn to caffeine to overcome fatigue, even if the overall effect isn’t always positive. Coffee might be able to give you a quick boost, but it typically leads to a sharp crash in your energy levels later in the day. Therefore, it’s important not to be overly reliant on caffeine, and instead use natural methods to cultivate sustained energy throughout the day.
In this article, we share Lee’s five recommendations to naturally overcome fatigue using Qi Gong principles.
1. Prioritize Good Sleep
Good sleep is the foundation for energy and vitality during the day! Without enough deep and restful sleep, it can be difficult to stay alert, focused, and balanced throughout all of your daily activities.
To get a good night’s sleep, Lee recommends turning off your electronic devices one hour before bed. Depending on your habits, this may take a bit of planning. If you’re used to checking emails or doing computer work in the evening, it might be worth it to do that earlier in the day so you can close your laptop well before bedtime.
Additionally, it’s wise to establish a consistent bedtime. If your bedtime varies dramatically each night, your body can have a hard time adjusting to your irregular schedule. This can make it difficult to fall asleep, preventing you from feeling well-rested in the morning.
At first, it may take some effort to create a consistent bedtime, but after a couple of weeks it will become easier to stick to.
2. Start Your Day With Movement
In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton established his famous law of inertia, also known as Newton’s First Law. In essence, it stated that an object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. This law was meant to describe physical objects, but it also happens to explain how the human energy system works. If you start your day with some movement, it’s much easier to keep moving throughout your day while feeling energized and inspired.
Movement activates your internal energy, which helps your mind stay sharp and focused. It also elevates your emotional state, enabling you to experience more vigor and joy every day.
There are many enjoyable activities that can help you move your body on a consistent basis. Some people enjoy taking a walk, which often provides the added benefit of getting some sunshine. Others prefer working out or going on a run. There are countless activities that involve movement, so try to find one that you enjoy doing.
3. Take Some Deep Breaths
Even if you’re getting sufficient sleep and enough physical activity, it’s still possible for fatigue to creep up throughout the day. When this happens, Lee recommends spending a few minutes taking some slow, deep breaths.
To do this, inhale for five seconds and then exhale for five seconds. Try to calm your mind as you take deep, full breaths of air as you relax your body. You don’t need to spend a lot of time. Even just two to three minutes of slow, deep breathing can give your body a significant boost of energy. This is a great practice to do at work, while at school, or anytime you find yourself feeling tired or fatigued.
4. Spend Time In Nature
Have you ever stepped into nature and noticed that you suddenly feel more alive and energized? If you’ve experienced this, you’re not alone. For thousands of years, Chinese Medicine has recognized that nature holds immense energy (Qi) that humans can harness. In the twenty-first century, this fact has even been scientifically verified and reported in a number of medical journals.
To increase your energy and overcome fatigue, Lee suggests spending some time in nature each day. Just like exercise, there are many ways you can do this. Hiking, biking, swimming, gardening, and walking are all great ways to get outside and absorb the energy of nature. In Lee’s case, he loves to jump on his bike and pedal along the rugged nature trails that wind through the Santa Cruz mountains.
5. Practice Qi Gong
There are numerous benefits of practicing Qi Gong, like increasing your energy and reducing fatigue. This happens because Qi Gong awakens your internal energy and circulates it throughout your body, making you feel focused, alert, and full of life.
